Your 5-Night Christmas Experience

(22nd – 27th December 2025)

22nd December – A Warm Welcome

Avoid the busy Christmas traffic and enjoy a peaceful, stress free journey to Dartmoor. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of aromatic mulled wine and freshly baked mince pies by the fire.

 

By arriving early, you can settle in at your own pace, take a stroll through our tranquil valley, or simply unwind in the comfort of your room.

As evening falls, enjoy your first 3 course dinner, thoughtfully curated from our evening menu, featuring seasonal flavours and local produce, beautifully presented in our candlelit dining room.

​

The festive spirit at Lydgate feels like being among friends, warm conversation by the fire and the sense of being part of something special.

 

23rd December – Leisurely Festivities

Begin the day with a Devonshire breakfast before setting out to explore the moor, or perhaps visit one of the charming nearby towns beautifully dressed for Christmas.

 

Return to the warmth of Lydgate House in the evening for another elegant 3 course dinner, prepared with care and imagination.

Christmas Eve – The Magic Builds

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast in the Garden Room, where views of the valley set the perfect tone for the day ahead.

 

You might visit a National Trust property adorned with festive decorations, such as Cotehele, famous for its breathtaking 60-foot floral garland or wander the market town of Tavistock, brimming with independent shops and Christmas cheer.

 

At 6:30 pm, join us in the lounge for pre-dinner drinks, followed by a festive 3 course dinner served at 7pm. Afterwards, linger by the fire with a nightcap and soak up the enchanting atmosphere of Christmas Eve on Dartmoor.

 

Christmas Day – A Day of Festive Bliss

Awake to a beautifully festive Champagne breakfast, served with all your favourites. Spend the morning at leisure: take a peaceful Christmas Day walk across the moor or relax by the log fire with a good book.

​

At 2pm, enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapés, followed by a lavish 3 course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, rich with festive flavour and served with genuine care.

​

As evening draws in, relax in the lounge, play cards, or simply enjoy good company. A light evening buffet of cold meats, cheese, and chutneys will be available, along with a slice of homemade Christmas cake and perhaps a final nightcap to end your perfect day.

At Lydgate, we believe Christmas should be unhurried,  time to rest, reconnect, and simply enjoy being looked after.

 

Boxing Day – Relaxation & Reflection

After a leisurely breakfast, the day is yours to plan. Explore the landscape, visit a nearby village, or simply rest and rejuvenate.

In the evening, enjoy another 3 course dinner showcasing Sarah’s seasonal creations, the perfect conclusion to a restful Boxing Day.

 

27th December – Farewell, Until Next Time

Enjoy your final Devonshire breakfast in the Garden Room before we bid you farewell. Leave Lydgate House refreshed, restored, and filled with cherished memories of a Christmas spent in true Dartmoor tranquillity.

Yes.  Lydgate House is an adults-only retreat, offering peace, privacy, and a tranquil atmosphere throughout your stay.

Are dietary requirements catered for?
Absolutely. We’re delighted to accommodate all dietary requirements, just let us know when booking so we can ensure every meal is thoughtfully prepared to suit your needs.

Can we stay for fewer than 5 nights?
Our Christmas Experience is designed as a 5-night stay to offer the full festive experience. However, if you’re unable to join us for all five nights, please contact us directly, we’ll do our best to tailor a stay so you don’t miss out.

​

Is a deposit required?
Yes. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking (as this is a special event). The remaining balance is due 8 weeks before arrival, and we’ll send a friendly reminder closer to the time.
