Lydgate's Local Suppliers
Since opening our doors in 2021 “Palmers” butchers (est c1900) of Tavistock has supplied our hotel with all our meat produce (apart from venison). They hand make their sausages, the beef comes from local farms around Tavistock, whilst the free-range chicken is supplied from Crediton.
Our Venison- The succulent venison we serve is a true reflection of Dartmoor, sourced with care, respect, and a strong connection to the land.
We work with two trusted local suppliers. Wild Hart Venison provide beautifully flavourful, Dartmoor-reared venison, responsibly sourced with a clear commitment to supporting the environment and increasing biodiversity.
Alongside this, we also source from A B Game Larder, specialists in deer management and traditional butchery. Their expertise ensures exceptional quality and careful preparation of each cut.
By working with both suppliers, we are able to offer venison that is not only rich in flavour, but also grounded in sustainability, provenance, and the wild character of Dartmoor.
Fishmonger – Straight from the trawlers in Plymouth we have a weekly fresh fish delivery to the hotel from Rex-Down. All responsibly sourced and MSC approved.
Fruit and Vegetables- At Lydgate, many of our vegetables are grown right here in our own garden, carefully tended and picked fresh for the kitchen each day. This close connection to the land allows us to bring truly seasonal, vibrant flavours to every dish.
To complement what we grow ourselves, we are delighted to work with Continental Fruits, who have been supplying the hotel over the past year. Their commitment to quality, freshness, and seasonality ensures we always have access to the very best produce.
Together, this balance of homegrown ingredients and expertly sourced fruit and vegetables allows us to create dishes that are both beautifully fresh and full of natural flavour, reflecting the very best of the season.
Our wine list is carefully curated in partnership with Majestic Wine, who have been proudly supplying the hotel since 2021.
What truly sets Majestic apart is their depth of knowledge and thoughtfully selected range. Every wine on our list is vegan-friendly, chosen for its purity and minimal intervention, allowing the true character of the grape and region to shine through.
Each bottle has been selected not just to accompany your meal, but to enhance your overall experience, bringing together quality, sustainability, and a genuine passion for great wine.
For the coffee lovers we have sourced roasted coffee on Dartmoor from the Dartmoor Coffee Co.
All our cheeses are supplied by “Country Cheese” in Tavistock. Offering a choice of over 150 different cheese’s all matured on the edge of Dartmoor.
Whisky – We stock Dartmoor Whiskies and Gin handcrafted on the edge of Dartmoor in Bovey Tracy.
Papillon Gin – Award-winning Dartmoor Gin from the distillery in Moretonhamstead. Named for an endangered Dartmoor butterfly financially donating to local butterfly conservation to protect this species.
Dartmoor Ales – There are four ingredients in their brewing, English malt, The finest hops, their own strain of yeast and pure Dartmoor water. A choice of four ales all stocked here at Lydgate, IPA, Jail Ale, Legend and Dragons Breath.
