"This was an absolutely lovely break away from city life. The hotel is set in the most beautiful and peaceful grounds, tucked in a vibrant valley with a gentle little stream passing through. The owners could not be more gracious as hosts and they made it an extremely pleasant stay. We really hope to be back and I can't recommend it enough for a long weekend or a week away in the country"

"This was a random choice for us as we wanted to stay in this particular area of Dartmoor. Luckily this turned out to be a very good decision as this hotel is absolutely fantastic. The property is situated in a beautiful spot with great walks on the the doorstep. We were made incredibly welcome, the rooms were comfortable and the food was outstanding. Overall it was a lovely personalised experience and we would definitely stay here again if we return to the area. Brilliant."

"We were lucky to stay in this lovely hotel with such a warm welcome and service from Sarah, John and Kelly. Our room, Heron, had the most wonderful views of the woods and river, which was in dramatic full flow in torrential rain while we were there. The sitting room with log burner couldn't have been more inviting or cosy in such weather. Great breakfasts, beautifully cooked and served in a room with even more extensive views. Fresh local produce at all meals. We hope to return and have already recommended Lydgate to friends."

"Arriving at Lydgate House I received a very warm welcome, and throughout my stay I continued to feel very welcome. My room was very comfortable and pleasantly furnished. The view out of the window onto the river and narrow valley the hotel is sited in was a joy. Food was very good and prepared just as I wished. I would highly recommend Lydgate House and intend returning later in the year when the weather is more conducive to walking and exploring the beautiful landscape."

"Perfect position, perfect hosts"
"Lydgate House is practically in the center of Dartmoor and is perfect for walking, as it is right on your doorstep, from the valley walk to the picturesque clapper bridge and just up the road to Bellever Forest and not to forget the whole of Dartmoor! We stayed for 3 days from Monday - Thursday, and couldn't have wished for better hosts, John, Sarah and Kelly are fantastic, friendly, attentive but not intrusive and full of information on the local area and beyond. All the food is locally sourced. We had a really delicious, freshly cooked breakfast each day and I have to say it is one of, if not, the best breakfasts I've eaten when away, and I love my breakfasts, special mention to the pepper sausage which is extremely tasty and moreish."
