2025 is shaping up to be a memorable year in Devon, with three much loved destinations celebrating landmark anniversaries. From world class gardens and iconic architecture to tranquil country house stays, each location offers a unique way to be part of Devon’s rich heritage and the celebrations are just getting started!
80 Years – The Garden House, Yelverton

Nestled on the site of Buckland Monachorum’s former vicarage, The Garden House was lovingly created by Lionel and Katharine Fortescue in the 1940s. Now celebrating its 80th anniversary, this world-renowned garden continues to inspire and delight.
Described by Alan Titchmarsh as “One of the finest gardens in Britain”, The Garden House is marking its milestone year with a full calendar of seasonal events and horticultural talks. A special highlight includes a visit from Frances Tophill, familiar to many as a presenter on BBC Gardeners’ World and ITV’s Love Your Garden.
Whether you’re a keen gardener or simply love a peaceful wander among blooms, there’s never been a better time to visit.
50 Years Castle Drogo

This year also marks 50 years since Castle Drogo became part of the National Trust family. This striking granite castle, perched above the Teign Gorge, has long captured the imagination of visitors with its unique blend of history, architecture, and dramatic landscape.
To celebrate this golden milestone, Castle Drogo is hosting 1970’s themed events and exhibitions throughout 2025. The celebrations kicked off on March 28th with volunteers and staff donning vintage attire.
4 Years – Lydgate House Hotel & Cottage

Here at Lydgate House Hotel, we’re also marking a special occasion, 4 wonderful years since we (Sarah and John Gibson) became custodians of this tranquil retreat in the heart of Dartmoor.
To celebrate, we’re sharing the joy with 4 special anniversary gifts for guests who stay with us during May 2025. From extra indulgences to unique experiences, it’s our way of saying thank you for your support and helping us continue the story of this magical place.
