Perched at the very centre of Dartmoor, Postbridge is more than just a village, it’s a peaceful gateway into the soul of the moor. Surrounded by open commons, heather covered slopes, and winding river paths. There are countless circular walks from your doorstep. Bellever Forest or Laughter Tor.
The village is best known for its iconic clapper bridge, thought to date back to the 13th century. Built with massive granite slabs and resting on the original stepping stones used by packhorses, it’s one of the most photographed sights on Dartmoor and a truly magical spot at dawn or dusk, when the River East Dart glistens in the soft light.
Just steps from the bridge is the Postbridge National Park Visitor Centre, where engaging displays bring the story of Dartmoor’s landscapes, wildlife, and human history to life.
Don’t miss:
• A wander down to the river for a quiet moment on the clapper bridge
• The immersive exhibition at the National Park Visitor Centre
• An early evening stroll as the ponies graze nearby and the skies shift to gold
