Tucked away in the gentle hills near Iddesleigh, War Horse Valley is far more than a scenic viewpoint, it’s a place where stories were born, both real and imagined. This working farm and heritage centre sits at the heart of the landscape that inspired Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel, War Horse, and it remains one of the most quietly powerful places in Devon.
Parsonage Farm, where the experience begins, has been run by the same family for nearly a century. The house and surrounding land played a central role in Michael Morpurgo’s original vision.
Don’t Miss:
• The exhibition centre, where the real stories behind War Horse come to life
• The scenic walk through the valley, with Dartmoor as a backdrop
Local Secret: On misty mornings, the valley takes on a cinematic quality, perfect for photos and a poignant connection to the past.
Top Tip: This valley is prone to mist and low cloud, check the weather before you go, though a touch of fog only adds to the atmosphere.
